Is this image AI generated?

Date:

The more time i spend on the internet these days the more the question arise: „Is this image real or AI generated?“ There are many online tools that claim to identify if an image is AI generated or not. But how good are these tools? Let’s put them to the test.

Test scenario

I will put several images through various tools and see the results. I will test the following images.

A real unedited photo
A real photo edited with GIMP
A AI generated photo
A drawing made by a human
A AI generated drawing

How do i know these image are real?
The real photo i took myself, the edited photo i also took myself and edited it in GIMP. The AI generated photo is one of the sample picture from lucidpic.com an AI video Generator. The drawing made by a human was a commission by a friend of mine for my pen & paper blog. And the AI generated drawing i got from a subreddit dedicated to AI Images /r/dndai.
I have not spend any money on any of these tools and only used the free version.

Test result

The percent value shows how likely it is, that the image real or human made. 100% = human made, 0% AI generated.

Rating

isthisai.com and isgen.ai are both the best in this test. They both recognized all image correctly. Even when tested some more images they always recognized it correctly.

zerogpt.com and deepai.org are both OK. They where not certain on the AI generated drawings but recognized the other images correctly.

aiphotocheck.com is bad. It didn’t recognized the drawing made by a human and flagged the edited photo as AI.

reversely.ai is the worst. It was wrong all the time. Even with other pictures i have tested it never identified the image correctly.
